Connecting 4-Pin RGB Fans to a 5-Pin RGBW header on the motherboard

How can you connect a 4 pin RGB fan to a motherboard which only contains 5 pin rgbw pin headers. If I just ignore the W pin and plug it into the 12V+RGB will that work or will it mess up the lighting, considering the RGBW header is not in order (BRG or something like that)?

Welcome to the Forums!

It depends on which fans we are referring to first as not all fans can connect to the motherboard. For standard SMD5050 Type RGB devices, you would just connect the 4pins and let the last one the 5th unconnected. If it doesn't follow the standard then you will need to make or obtain an adapter for it to work for regualr 4 pin connection.
