well, you still have 2300 left! you should get him a 1080Ti atleast, and maybe if you can fit it in a Threadripper or maybe even a Core i9, tough that would be stretching it.

I find it kind of funny that your friend's max budget is 5k USD, but your list only goes up to ~2.3k USD.

 

IMO, the 8700K would be more "OP" than the 1800x. And, at that budget, you should have a 1080Ti. After all, even with the crazy high prices, it'll fit. Also, you should have 1440p. Throw a copy of Windows on, and it's all good.

$5k budget and only a 1080 with a 1080p display? I'd take an 8700k with 1080 Ti (SLI if you must fill the budget :P ) and anice 1440p 144 Hz or 100/120 Hz 1440p ultrawide (whatever fits the budget).
