motherboard upgrade?

Your system is quite old so you probably could use a full system upgrade. But as @NelizMastr suggested, just get a regular SSD and dont worry about m.2 on that platform.

Hi all this is my first post so I hope i have it in the correct section.

i currently run an msi a88x-g45 gaming fm2+ with a amd a10-7850 kaveri apu and still on mechanical hdd i mainly use for htpc and a spot of gaming and looking into ssd my question is do i buy a SATA ssd pic card with m.2 or am I wasting my time and should I upgrade the board with m.2 support?

i have googled but sometimes struggle to decipher the jargon Tia

Just get a SATA SSD, the regular 2,5" kind.

is there enough life left in my rig for now or would u suggest an upgrade ie new board and apu? I am a fan of the amd apu's purely down to budget  i am also running corsair vengance ddr3 2400 8gb (any need to skip to 4/would the ddr3 still work with the 4?) .

also Nelizmastr what is your take on the ryzen 7? is it a vast improvement on the kaveris?
