Firefox always seems odd in Task Manager

Every time I have Firefox open this is what it looks like in Task Manager

Is this normal? I literally only have one tab open and it's my home page (Astronomy Picture of the Day). Hoping there hasn't been some undetectable malware secretly using my browser to mine

You can limit it in the options menu. I have mine restricted to 1 process, however it still uses 2.

But is this a normal thing? If so, would limiting it to only one or two processes have an affect on the browser's performance?

All programs now usually separate their subprocesses in task manager.

This is why there is a little drop down arrow beside the name.

It doesn't matter how many tabs you have, this is just how the software works, there are multiple things running at the same time.

This makes it easier for devs to troubleshoot different parts of a program.

This was a feature added in the 57 update. These multiple processes greatly reduce RAM usage and increases speed.

 

This is similar to what would happen if you were using Chrome.

 

Completely normal and helpful.

Yeah it's normal.

I haven't noticed a difference. IIRC it's mostly there in case a window crashes. You have a lot of RAM though so you might as well leave them there.
