Hey guys, i very rarely come on here as you can likely see with my post history LOL but, recently I've been watching what Casey Neistat is trying to do with his new 368 building.

So far it seems like he wants to give a physical place to allow creators to make content, team up and hopefully move away from youtube to provide a stable environment for them to create. Essentially the floatplane mission statement although floatsplane is currently is more geared towards tech since i mean... thats the already developed relationships of those youtubers.

Now i realize this doesn't entirely fit the demographic now but I'm curious as to whether the floatplane team would be interested in providing the backbone to what seems a perfect match up. Floatplane with the subscription and virtual space and Casey with the physical one? He recently got in contact with both the founder of Patreon and Reddit who seem to be on board with development and it really just seems like a match made in heaven? Has or would anyone reach out to him and see what his thoughts are on the match up?

Anyways, thoughts.. from anyone?

Makes sense. Just seems like they have an already existing model and working proof of concept that would go so well with what Casey is trying to do with his new 368 idea.

I would assume the longer term goal is to get as many creators on board over time increasing variation in available content thus increasing subscriber count after all.

It feels like many major youtubers are searching ways to cut their dependence with YT. Casey Neistat is doing hes thing, LMG doing their thing. As both seem to be just starting out, its hard to know how well they are succeeded. With Patreon just recently changing how their support system works, I don't get very confident feeling when its related to new project like this. These bigger companies are looking to make profit by using creators. As long as that kept tight in mind, every new venture is good. Variety is always better than monopoly, and internet has kinda given YT/Google too much monopoly.

the thing that casey is doing wont cut anything from youtube as hes not doing a content plattform, hes creating a company to support others creating content but doesnt give them a place to host this content.

Also the internet has not given google a monopoly, they have created it by putting user experience first, building a user base and then figuring out how to monetize it.

Youtube has according to what you find on the internet never made google any money, its a platform with so much potential but the initial investment in infrastructure is absolutely huge and is something for example Floatplane will not be able to compete with on the same scale unless they rent the resources from Amazon.

Yes not everything youtube does or has done was good for creators but then again wtihout youtube it entirely possible there would be no creators today and no platform like this in general.

When youtube started we had other platforms like DivX Stage6 which closed as it was not profitable or look at vimeo which kind of has a pay wall and it not really an open platform anymore.
