Sli Strix GTX 970?

I have been wanting to bump up my PC performance. I can't afford a 1070 or 1080, but i can get a copy of my current card, which is a Asus Strix GTX 970 for about 250 dollars. Can I run this setup in SLI reliably and see some decent performance increases?

The problem with SLI is that performance is inconsistent. What we can see now, is that games are supporting it less and less over time. It's better to sell your current card for the money to hop on to a single faster card, like a 980ti. If your system cant work if you sell your current card, then you will have to wait for money to build up again.

I agree with the post above. Also, 250bucks is too much for a 970. They are going for about 180-200 out here.

Would it be worth saving for a top of the line card like a 1080ti and run that for a couple years?

Ofc, If you play games on 1080p, 1440p. You can use the 1080ti for atleast 5 years.

Actually no, a mid range card is much better value in a long run. At its current trend, you should buy mid range cards 2 generations after your current one, for Nvidia, 2 architecture generations, for AMD.

Yea, I wouldn't SLI a previous generation GPU. There are better options out there. SLI is only worth it if you want more performance than what the best single GPU can offer.

I guess that depends on how easy it is for you to save up or pay off a card like the GTX 1080Ti, but with Volta right around the corner, it might just be wiser waiting. IMHO, if you want to buy a high end GPU, it's better to do it when they first launch, not when they're about to be succeeded. For example, if you bought a GTX 980 in 2014, you probably did pretty well. But if you bought a GTX 980 right before Pascal released, you probably wouldn't have felt so good about buying the 980 when the 1060 released.

 

The 1080Ti will likely be somewhere around or between the 1170 and 1180 considering how GPU performance trends with each new generation. Depending on the market, you can probably get a 1080Ti Volta equivalent for at least 3/4ths the price of a 1080Ti.

 

If your GTX 970 can't do what you want it to do, then upgrade. But if you can wait, then save your money and wait.
