Budget & Location

 US $1100-1900

2. Aim

System will be used for gaming mainly. Looking towards recent FPS and open world games (Games around quality of rainbow six siege). Not sure if I want to overclock, or if it will really be necessary. I'm trying to get a lasting system for my budget, willing to land in that 1500-1700 sweet spot.

3. Monitors

I'm laptop currently, I'm looking for a 22.5" to 24" monitor that has good colors and semi-bright screen. Currently, AOC - G2460PF is my choice from what I could tell was good budget.

4. Peripherals

Razer - Cynosa Chroma Wired Gaming Keyboard (If there's something that can be improved with this, lemme know.) Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit

5. Why are you upgrading?

Going into PC gaming, wanted to start pretty soon. Noticed my current laptop is struggling to run popular games I've been doing (Fortnite, PUBG, even CSGO sucks sometimes)

6. Parts in my plan as of posting

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bwopper/saved/p4fWXL

The GPU, being my most expensive component, has made me very stressed. Idk which GPU to begin with. As I'm new to pc gaming, I'm not sure what I particularly need, considering I'll be getting the games, not having them already. My GPU as of my current plan in my opinion may be overkill

The CPU is what I'm also thinking about. I'm currently thinking of getting a Ryzen 7 2700/2700X or Ryzen 2600/2600X. If I should use these for overclocking, I'm not sure.

The motherboard was also annoying. I'm very lost in which to choose. The X370 seemed like a quality, budget choice. I'm sure there are better ones out there.

The case: Oh dear god please help me. Do I get one with pre-installed coolers or buy coolers separately? Which cases are more organized and easy for installing your parts?

PSU: Very limited knowledge on what is the better part. All of them seem so familiar.

Storage and Memory: I don't know how they are better than the others.

Wait for Ryzen 2 on the 19th

don't buy MSI AM4 boards

You don't need a GTX 1080 for that display, go for like a GTX 1050ti while prices are still insane it will be mostly fine

You don't need to buy windows you can get it for free from microsoft using their media creation tool

I can't tell where your $2000 budget went though...

there are cheaper RGB membrane keyboards

Ryzen 2 is pre-order soon

that gpu will push more than the monitor you've listed, go for either 1440p 144hz or 1070 or less

think about a 10 keyless keyboard, I find that when gaming I want my left and right hand closer together so I don't bump the keyboard with the mouse, but this is purely subjective.  I would consider ditching rgb and putting the money towards a mechanical keyboard, but you seriously need to feel the different switches.  I have the razer black widow TE with greens and absolutely love it, to the point that I broke my two rgb sets (razer and corsair keyboard mouse and pad) in two and have a mish mash for best feel rather than rgb echo system.

gpu's are getting to be in stock again, if you wait a bit it might get better and who knows what will happen with new launches.  Maybe look into an amd gpu if you're going 1080p 144hz (freesync is easy to get)

research the exact psu, EVGA is a strong psu company but here in the forums I hear that not every model from reputable manufacturers are perfect.

Audio go Brrrrrr

Thanks for the recommendations on the GPU. It was definitely the trickiest part of the build. I can try and see what my prices lower down to from rgb.

I would take the gpu money and put it into peripherals, sacrilege I know but having the right peripherals makes all the difference.  I have 3 mechanical keyboards and 3 gaming mice with 2 rgb mouse pads.  I have selected what I like best and get frustrated trying to use anything else.  FYI I'm using Razer Blackwidow Chroma Tournament Edition greens, Corsair MX65pro rgb, and a cloth mousepad.

That or bump up the display to 1440p 144hz and keep the gpu

I need some help finding a monitor, and a new gpu, its all very hard for me to choose. I don't know which manufacturer is more reliable, and if i'm getting the best value for my build.

Edit: Dell - S2417DG 23.8 could be a good choice for me

Saves you $1000 for whatever down the road, probably a next generation GPU and monitor upgrade at the same time. Also lets you know if you even care about 144hz. I prefer 4k 60hz over 1080p 144hz and I play esports titles even.

Wow, thanks Street! This information should help me cut back on costs. I also definitely knew my gpu was somehow overkill. I hope this build comes out fresh

A GTX 1050ti is slower than a 1080 or 1080ti of course.

but like 1080p low settings you're still getting 100fps, I use an RX 560 on a 4k display, not running AAA games at native of course.

Noticed that motherboard's reviews, AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX, were pretty iffy. Any other options? I'm willing to go up a bit on motherboards if it means more quality

I use an overclocked R7 1700 on that motherboard's VRM, and the RAM at 2933mhz it's fine. *I have a fan over the VRM because it does get hot at 1.375V

But better X470 motherboards are coming with Ryzen 2, and if you're buying an R7 2700X you might want a better board, like the upcoming Gigabyte board with real VRM heatsinks.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

The AOC G2460PF is a no-go. I have both the g2460 and the S2417DG, and the colors on the AOC one is just ugly no matter how hard I calibrate it, not to mention it's Freesync, which means you won't get anything out of the  The S2417DG is much nicer, but you will have to download a custom color profile to make it look nice. It's probably the best value 1440p gsync monitor out there and I love it a lot (with your budget you should just go 1440p anyway).

Which cases are more organized and easy for installing your parts?

don't bother with ryzen 7, games don't use that many cores right now. wait for reviews on the 2600 and see if it performs better than the coffeelake i5/7s before choosing either. a pro4 or prime plus is enough for a ryzen 1600/2600.

the stock cooler should be enough unless you plan to overclock it high, take a look at the Define/meshify C, P400/S TG and corsair 275R.

Did some editing towards the computer. I decided to use the Dell monitor.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bwopper/saved/p4fWXL

Decided to use 1700 since I'm entry level

Added mouse and compromised with keyboards

Added the motherboard, unsure if I want to go any higher for my current setup

Changed case, will need feedback

Cooler, because I'm unsure of how the 1700 will react to recent games

Switched out the 2tb for Seagate - FireCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive

Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB WINDFORCE OC 8G Video Card still has my interest.

I wouldn't like to go over 2000, but I'm open to consideration (if reasonable)

get a prime plus or pro4/K4 instead of that mobo, and the ninja 4/SCNJ-4000 over the mugen 5. the 1700 won't perform any better than the ryzen 1600 in games so avoid it unless you're gonna be streaming.
