And the simple answer is yes, if you can push that many frames it's great, but 60-75Hz is still fine. It's more of a nice to have.

It's totally personal opinion.  Can you see the improvement?  Yes, it's extremely noticeable.  Is that worth it?  That depends on you - a budget 1080p 60 hz panel is probably ~$100 but to get 144 hz is probably ~$250, and compared to even a budget display the viewing angles and colour could potentially be worse.  Then you can step up to like $800+ things and get high refresh rate, and great colours.
