If you can run the Belarc software, it will tell you everything about your hardware and software.  It will also tell you the key used to install the windows.

I'd suggest ProduKey over Belarc for a simple key retrieval.

OEM keys are one time use though, especially with Dell. If you contact them you'll wait for an hour so they can tell you that you need to talk to Microsoft about it. Then when you ask Microsoft, they tell you that you have to speak to Dell.

Just buy a new one from Kinguin or something.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

That's because you are supposed to use manufacturers recovery CD instead of stock. Your key is correct, but you'd need to have retail key to get retail ISO. Dell can't help you there. You can use alternative download source like windowsiso.net.

Wait what's the difference between a retail key and other keys?(if any???) SO from that website can I just download a free copy of windows for free just like that or what? I'm very confused on the terms for this sorry

its asking me to download it as a torrent what's different between that and a regular file?

There are two types of keys. Retail is the one you buy from store and costs $120-150. Rest are OEM, most of the time they are ones that come with prebuilds and laptops. But you can buy them from stores too, at bit cheaper price. OEMs are locked to mobo while retail keys can be moved from mobo to another.

That's mirror site for Windows ISO files. Microsoft took down their own download servers few years ago. That site and few others offer ISOs that are just that. Nothing illegal, no cracks, just same files you would get from MS site.

ISO is disc image or installer. You will still need to have key to activate Windows. With Win7 and Win8/.1 you have 30-day free trial, with Win10 it's 30-days with full features and unlimited use with limited features after that.

Torrent is transfer protocol. Files are same. Torrent files just use less bandwidth for original source than normal downloads. (Torrents and torrenting are often linked to pirating, but most of open-source software use torrents for their installers).

i just found out i have no idea how to torrent :).

You need client software. There are several good ones. Like qBittorrent and Deluge. I use Vuze. Then just select to open file in that client software and it will download file. Torrents use P2P connections so you will download files in pieces (4-20mb each) and upload pieces to other downloaders. Once downloaded is finished, files will be just same as if you'd downloaded file as whole with browser.
