Hi guys! I'm new to pc building, bought my pc pre-configured and have since added an SSD and replaced my GTX970 with a 1080ti. Now it is time to replace my Intel i5-6600K 3,50GHz CPU. I also want to replace my CPU cooling.

I'm using a Gigabyte B150M-D3H Motherboard and the product specifications say:

  1. Support for 7th/6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 processors/Intel® Core™ i5 processors/ Intel® Core™ i3 processors/Intel® Pentium® processors/ Intel® Celeron® processors in the LGA1151 package
  2. * For 7th Generation Intel® Core™ processors support need to update the latest BIOS.

What do I look for? Am I correct saying that the latest generation of CPU's is the 8th generation? Does any CPU fit in my motherboard?

Only the 6th gen (Skylake) and 7th gen (Kaby Lake) fit your motherboard, 8th gen (Coffee Lake) requires a new board.

Well, they fit.

Not to say they will work

It's the same socket.
