Hi there my current setup is an i3 2120 HP pre-built (Bought on eBay last year just to tide me over for £75) 8gb of memory, 1tb hdd, and a 1050ti... My main games of choice is either Fortnite/World of Warcraft.... I have just got my SSD delivered today 120gb for the OS boot.

Now I was considering upgrading the CPU that is currently in my PC to a 2500 standard as i doubt I'd be able to overclock on my current mobo? The PC is a HP Compaq 6200 Pro Microtower.... Would I see any notable improvement gaming wise?

I was considering upgrading to a 1600 Zen but with a 1050ti I don't think it would be a notable improvement and just wait till I upgrade my current card?

Thanks for any advice.

Upgrading to a Ryzen would be an appreciable upgrade over the i3-2120 by far. For one it's a 6C/12T processor, which you currently have a 2C/4T one. If you can afford to get both that and a board, then it'll go a long way.

Otherwise, if you cannot determine if your board is compatible with Ivy Bridge, a locked i7 Sandy Bridge would be your best bet.

If you can find a decent compatible processor on ebay or whatnot. Wouldn't be horrible to throw it in. I had a old computer with a E7500 Core 2 Duo in it. Found a Core 2 Quad Q9650 for $35 shipped. Double the cores, increase cache, etc. It was noticeable.
