ethernet vs wireless speed

Is there any difference in the speed between the ethernet and wireless networks?On my ethernet adapter when i click "Status" it says "Speed: 100.0Mbps",on the wireless one it says "Speed : 72.0Mbps). When I test the speeds on speedtest.net,the results are: ~60 mb download on ethernet and ~30 mb download on wireless. Therefore it means the ethernet is always faster or it's just random results on speedtest.net? The second question is:

What will happen if I download a Torrent with 1000 seeders and 1000 leechers with  cable network and if I compare it with Laptop,using wi-fi downloading the same torrent with 1000 seeders and 1000 leechers? Both will have the same speed or what? It would be nice if someone tells me some info and answers both questions. I know the speed of downloading torrent mostly depends on the seeders,but is the network speed important with this case?Will be there difference if I download a torrent with 100Mbps internet and then with 150Mbps?

Ethernet is simply more stable. Plus Ethernet has the advantage of being full-duplex, meaning devices can both talk and listen at the same time.

 

Wi-Fi is more unstable, due to how good the connection is, how many other devices are on the network, how fast those devices are talking, and that Wi-Fi is half-duplex or that the devices can only talk or listen.

 

The speed discrepancy may just be due the factors that cause Wi-Fi to be more unstable plus the half-duplex nature.

Ethernet is generally always faster than wireless as wireless has more obstacles suck as walls, other devices on the same network or on the same area using the same frequencies and whatnot.

Wireless is generally slower than ethernet, mostly because it has a lot more latency and "congestion" specially if there are multiple wireless networks in the same area.

 

As such wired is always my goto, where its possible.

Wireless can be just as fast as ethernet, and most modern wireless points have seperate download and upload antennas to try to make this better if you have multiple wireless clients sending and receiving data. 

 

However, it looks like you either

A) have an old network card in your computer

B) have an old router

C) have a very old cable,

 

as most modern devices will connect at 1.0 Gbps via a cable, unless one of the above is true, so if this is the case, your wireless router is probably included within that device and wont give you the best possible wireless performance you can get. 

 

for example, my wireless router can actually provide me with upto about 240Mbps download speeds on speedtest, (i have a 500 mbps internet connection)

Wireless is generally slower by nature, but considering my connection taps out at 120mbps on a good day and my Wireless router can output that much I could care less. 

 

Wireless of wired if you ask me.

The others have answered your ethernet vs wifi question. As for torrenting, the faster your internet, the faster you can download if there are torrent has enough seeds/peers to support it.

With car example

Your car speed max is 60kmh

Road speed limit on the left lane is 80kmh, on the right lane is 100kmh.

 

If you going full speed with your car, does it matter if you stay on right or left lane?
