I am looking to buy parts for my first gaming built and been researching extensively from last 3 months.

Due to benchmarks and comparison I have already surpassed my budget limit by almost 40%.

But after all that research if I buy 1060 6 GB with intel kaby lake (NON OC) ,I think soon within six months the GTX 1060 'Volta' successor will be out with cheap coffee lake motherboards(B350), so after 6-7 months they would have similar prices but obviously better performance.

If I buy Pascal-kabylake now would I regret after 6 months for not going with Volta-Coffeelake.

Also if there any performance increase with V-C combination like more than 30% proportion to price increase. Keeping crypto currency craze in mind.

Keeping some things in mind that I live in a remote area so prices of gaming components are already 30% higher (not to mention that I am being forced to buy 1060 here with $470 USD pricetag)

Secondly I think crypto currency craze would definitely hit Volta' prices by 40% and I am extremely tight on budget already.

I am waiting for my gaming rig for last 6 months.  And also I'll be using this gaming rig for next 5-6 years with no chance of upgradation (I can surely can lower the graphics quality till 30fps 1080p.)

What should I do now...I seriously need some expert advice.

Any views or suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you

If you're in the US the 1060 6GB is way cheaper than that. Here is a 1060 6GB in stock for $330:

Gamers Nexus (great youtube channel BTW for PC gamers) reports GDDR6 mass production is still three months away, so don't expect Volta very soon.

well... considering there will not be a volta based gaming card based on all the news over the past month, you may be waiting a LONG time. New cards are probably not coming until the fall this year, and will be launched likely in line with the GDDR6 launch that @SteveGrabowski0 mentioned.

What do you use now? I mean, there's a reason to wait for Volta(whatever Nvidia's next release will be called) because of new features (raytracing), but if what you have is unbearable then just grab a 1060 now.

Wait for the new gen, Pascal cards will become cheaper and Maxwell cards even cheaper than now. I might personally just wait til the new gen then buy myself a 980ti or something since they'll still be a viable option for a gpu.

The gpu situation is such a mess its hard to say what people should do. I feel bad for people in need of one right now.

I lucked out and got my 1070ti in early december right before prices skyrocketed. If i had to do it over again i would have got a 1080ti when they eere still 700 usd, because i dont see prices dropping soon. This is the new normal.

If the profit levels keep plummeting on gpu mining, I think the card prices will be back to pre spike levels within three months.

about  a month ago a gtx 1070 was making $50-60 a month after my electric cost.  Now it's at $22.

i sold all my stuff at a profit a few weeks ago, but I still keep a check on it to see just how bad it's getting.

if it continues like this, it will be unprofitable by the end of the year.

Thanks guys,

First of all I live in South East Asia(India in perticular), so all the high end gaming component are imported here directly from western countries that's why prices are soo up, due to custom duties and low availability but high demand.

Secondly I had a laptop which I used to game on, it was equipped with a nvidia 820m 1Gb, and was barely able to play GTA V which is a highly optimised game for low end PCs (or other game after 2015)(18-22 fps).

But just 2 months ago, its gpu  stopped working and there's no poi t in spending 150$ in its repair.

I am more than just a casual gamer, and out of misery, I am prepared to buy an entry level gaming setup even at the cost of $1500 (including g customs on each gaming part here)

I want to game, but I am already $500 above my budget and I am not getting any upgrades on my gaming setup for next 5-6 years(or until I can't game decently at 30fps, 1080p....On all AAA upcoming titles). Whichever comes last.

So that's why I am asking is it still profitable to buy a 1060 after almost 2 years after its release(as it's an entry level card can't expect as much as a top tier previous gen cards )

So would I be missing out on a lot of performance if I won't wait for Volta-coffeelake  and then regret on wasting my $1500 on a previous gen pc.

Is the wait worth it because I want to game SO BADLY, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY

Note- I would be gaming on 1 1080p monitor, No GPU over cloak, No mining trial or no messing around with the durability of my pc components....Just pure gaming.

Thank-you everyone for your precious time

Nah, that's way too much money for a 1060 6gb. Any 1050 or RX 560 deals? Used cards as well?

Cheap mobo for coffee lake are H310 and B360, not B350 cuz that's AMD Ryzen's.
