Hey guys just wanting another opinion about building a new pc or just upgrading my current build.

My specs are

Intel core i7 3770k @ 4.1Ghz

Kingston Hyper X 2x4 8GB DDR3

Powercolour Radeon HD7970 3GB

I used to have 16gb of ram and a gtx 970 but unfortunately they both died

I will mainly be gaming, photo editing and a little bit of video editing mainly lightroom. I don't see myself doing huge video projects in the future more of little video projects here and there

I was looking at getting a gtx 1060 6gb and a new set of ram 16gb again, but was also looking at getting a ryzen 1700x instead and jump on the ddr4 bandwagon, I would like to upgrade the gpu and ram as its more economical at the moment especially with the prices here is Australia.

Thanks in advance.

How did the parts die, and what PSU and case do you have?

Well first the gpu started playing up kept getting direct x errors in most games saying device hung up then afterwards it would post anymore.

As for the ram same deal 1 set decided not to work no posting as well tested on 2 other systems no posting as well

As for psu I have a evga supernova 650 and for my case I have a thermaltake view 27

Strange. Those parts are usually very reliable. The GPU warranty has probably run out, but the RAM might have a lifetime warranty.

You could probably just add in a higher end GPU and call it a day. RAM prices are unusually high, and the Ryzen refresh is coming out next month.

Atm, for gaming, photo editing and video editing (except for exporting), Coffee is still better than Ryzen, at least for Adobe CC.

If you'll build an entire new PC, here's my suggestion. You could probably reuse the case, PSU and storage from the old rig, if you want that.

I'm more leaning towards a current upgrade of the gpu and maybe 2nd hand ram i don't justify spending $250 for a 16gb kit i remember spending $60 for a 8gb kit when i built my old amd rig a few years back.
