How high can i over clock an i7-8700k without de lidding and using a cryorig h7  

Also how high can I over clock an i7 8700k without de lidding and using a hyper 212 turbo 

if I have to de lod do u recommend any de lidding tools and thermal paste and silicon paste thingy thx

Which CPU should I get the ryzen 7 1700 or the i7 8700k I am gonna be doing a lot of gaming a decent amount of productivity work (Photoshop Cad Cam) and a very light amount of streaming and YouTube video making/ Yt video editing BTW I don't care about price right now I'm leaning towards the i7 8700k cuz its better at gaming and Photoshop and cad cam stuff  and the things I'm doing which are better on ryzen is very light stuff but I don't really know

 

O OK that's much higher than I thought do I get 4.7 GHz without de lidding

My standard answer would be use a ryzen chip for streaming, video editing due to its extra cores, and use intel for gaming/ programming. But the 8700k is honestly an amazing chip. I would defiantly go with the 8700k due to the possible overclocks on it, however if you're willing to wait, I think the 2700 or above would be slightly better due to its new architecture.

8700k, because it's not that far behind the 1700 when it comes to apps that use a lot of cores, but much faster when it comes to games. Unless you are in a rush, do wait for Ryzen 2000 series launching next month and see what's what.

Cooling performance of any cooler depends on temperature between the heatsink and the air surrounding it. I mean, you wont feel cool if you are surrounded by hot air, will you?

They cost about the same but one gives you more cores and threads so it makes sense to go for the 8700K

Not much, but new chips are always better than the old ones. 

 

I'm not sure how much better the 8700k is but im sure the performance is significant enough to go with an 8700k rather than a 7700k.

The only problem I have with with i7 -8700k is that to get even higher on over clocks I need to delid it do u recommend any good delidding tools thermal paste and silicone paste thingy

A vice works fine as long as you catch the cpu with padding instead of letting it fall to the floor. I use Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra and no adhesive. Adhesive makes it a bit easier but the retention bracket on the motherboard is generally enough to hold the IHS down.

How much is a coolabarotory  liquid adhesive and what is it is it a delid tool or a thermal paste or uhu

Hi, for delidding i would recommend a delidding tool from der8auer, its nearly foolproof. Between the IHS and the DIE i would use the Conductonaut liquid metal paste, i use this paste currently with my 3770k. For resealing i used the UHU high temperature silicone which isn´t expensive but the smallest bin of that stuff is 80 ml, which is enough for 100+ CPU´s. On top of the IHS you can use whatever Thermalpase you want ;)

im not delidded and currently on Aircooling (Thermalright Silverarrow)

max temps are about 75°C, and im never hitting those temps while gaming/normal use @5GHz 1.25v. maybe while streaming and playing pubg at the same time. (PuBG uses AVX and im not using the AVX offset.)

 

I dont have the best 8700k, the best samples can do 5GHz @1.168v. Its all about your luck. But using a Hyper212 Evo or cryorig h7 i would say you are pretty much stuck on 4,7-4,8GHz delidded or not, unless you are very very lucky and get a golden sample. 

 

My 8700k can currently do:

5.2GHz @1.35v,

5.3GHz @1.4v

 

and still boots into windows with 5.4GHz, but im not even trying to get that stable, because temps are already ridiculous @1.35v. I will delid next week.

I have always used Arctic Silver 5 in every build. Tried and true. There's too many factors that would determine how high you could overclock it. With that kind of CPU I'd recommend going liquid on a custom loop or at least an all in one unit. It's a shame to air cool that CPU but to each their own.
