Why is the minimum FPS on ryzen so low? I was watching this video and it seems that the 1800x and 8700k really are within 5-10% of each other depending on the task but the 8700k always comes out on top for minimum FPS, however the average is really not much higher.

Lower single core performance.

Games often cannot use 16 threads but they can use better performance per core.

Why would the averages by the same though? Or very close anyway?

They shouldn't, the 8700K is significantly better than all AMD CPUs.

Probably inadequate cooling or GPU bottlenecking.

There's no reason why the i5 should ever outperform the 8700K.

I would suggest looking at some other sources of benchmarks.

i5? I was comparing the Ryzen 7 1800x and the i7 8700k though.

Yes but he also shows the i5 in the benchmarks, and in some cases it is performing better than the i7, so something is definitely wrong with his testing methodology.

I see what you mean. I'm just trying to figure out what fucking processor to buy for my streaming PC. I want to stream & game at the same time and originally I wanted ryzen but after seeing the lower minimums I'm skeptical. But idk if 12 threads is enough for streaming...

People can stream on a 4 core 8 thread CPU just fine.

Get the 8700k.

Why is the 1800x even considered? Overclock the much cheaper R7 1700, then it's a more difficult choice between that and the 8700k.

You said that before but if I'm being honest with you I'm skeptical about the whole " 1700s being the same as 1800x " now, what if I get one that isn't binned? Then it will be stuck at 1700 performance.

Even the worse 1700 can still hit 3.8GHz, which isnt bad (especially when price is considered). Money saved on the CPU could go to somewhere else, like a graphics card or an independent capture card.
