Hi guys. I'm actually studying Informatics Engineering and the University itself gave me a brand-new very capable laptop for programming propouses(i3/8gb/1TB) and it works fine.But in 2019 I must send it back for recycling propouses or for charity things. So I will need a laptop for programming and I really have one but is a 2010 AMD 64 Dual-Core 2.2 Ghz CPU with 3 gigs of ram. I'm planning on pumping it up, set it up with 8GB of ram, 512 GB SSD, new keyboard, battery,etc.

Is it worth it wasting around US$200 on that laptop? Or I just go with the easy way and buy a new i5/8GB for around US$800 (in my country)?

Thanks!

Things I do (? --> Python, C# (3000+ lines), Java, etc.

Should just get any older thinkpad T4xx or T5xx or really business machine with an i5 or i7 and replace the battery. Do not waste any money on that laptop.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Don't waste money on that laptop, get a new one. Until you do though, just stick a lightweight linux distro on there, should be good for smaller projects.

Was use t5 at work for coding. Means we can just move by putting our laptops in a dock.

I7, 8gb and some Nvidia card.

If you're talking old laptops a GPU is probably just going to ruin your battery life.

Our laptops are always docked so battery life really isn't an issue.

Without a gpu  you will be limited to 2 screens, so gpu is a nice to have for more work space.

Why not get PC's when they are always docked :o

Exactly that. Sometimes we move around when work on projects.
