Thank you for the quick reply @jj9987 the only processor that comes up under the budget is the i3 but i dont wanna upgrade from a dual core to another dual core, does the i5 4460 support avx?

also if it doesn't i can buy the i5 7400 or sth similar since its new sort of and if i were to buy that, i can spend remaining on motherboard support, which would u recommend?

and will the DDR3 ram work with it?

Pretty much all Haswell Core i3, i5 and i7 support AVX.

thank you for the help @mariushm but most of them are xeon's which fit in the budget but would anyhow require a mobo upgrade and some i5's that fit under budget are for laptops..

so i need some straight up help that if i buy some new cpu like i5 7400, which motherboard (preferablly asus) would u reccommend and will ddr3 ram work?

That page contains ALL processors from Intel with AVX there's no other cpu from intel that would magically have avx and not show up there.

what mb do you have? some support xeon cpus.

newer cpus may only support ddr3L (1.35v max), is your ram 1.5v or higher

and discontinued doesn't matter, ebay exists and cpus are fairly safe busy, very low risk of buying broken cpus

Thank you for your straight up answer @Jurrunio and i googled haswell i5's and i7's , there are many that come under the budget but all say discontinued..

Haswell is only available in the used market and somewhat old already, though a CPU can last much longer than the manufacturer's warranty.

If you want something new then get Ryzen 5 1600 (will need to save up some more money or sell the old system), or wait till mid-April for Ryzen 2000 series. I mean, among new CPUs only Celeron and Pentium do not support AVX and AVX2. If you want AVX512 then the cheapest CPU is the 7800X.

Why do you want AVX so much? As far as I know, there are only very few tasks that uses it.

You have here the cpus supported by your board:

https://www.asus.com/in/Motherboards/B85MK/HelpDesk_CPU/

The board supports Xeon E3-1220 V3 with bios 0301 ... you can find those on ebay from around 120-150$ shipping included.  It probably supports v2 and v1 as well, but they're not listed on the motherboard cpu support page (they have AVX)

E3-1220 v3 has AVX2 which basically includes AVX instruction set, so it would work.

You also have support on your MB for e3-1225 , 1226, 1230, 1231, 1240, 1245, 1246, 1271, 1275, 1281, 1286 all v3 (Some with 0603 bios only) ... just search for E3-#### v3 in ebay and you find them .. for example 1226 v3 starts from around 200$ ...

For regular CPU's look at  https://ark.intel.com/Search/FeatureFilter?productType=processors&InstructionSet=64-bit&InstructionSetExtensions=Intel® AVX2&CoreCountMin=4

(the cpus with AVX2 which includes AVX , and list filtered to have minimum 4 cores)

Your MB supports i5 - 46xx and 47xx something - i think i saw an i5-4670, 4690 or  i7-4770 or something, which should be on the Intel list.

Thank you for all the help you guys have been doing but at this point i will save some more money up and order a motherboard  & ram for i5 8400 , processor has about 6 cores and is new also and can make my build future proof (for sometime atleast) ..

The motherboard im looking forward to go with it is Strix Z370H, do you think this motherboard as a good one or even decent? please let me know.

If you're gonna spend money on ddr4 you could go amd and get a ryzen 5 1600x (6c 12t, oc, higher frequencies than non overclockable 8400) - they have avx, and they'll work well with cheaper b350 boards.

or wait 1-2 months more for b450/x470 based boards and ryzen 2xxx series to show, which may lower prices of existing 1xxx series and current boards.

Speaking honestly with you here mate, I have a bad history with AMD, built a PC for my dad with AMD for office work and it overheated and blew up even though it had a AIO cooler and mine's just on air cooling with Intel.

So im looking forward to Intel only

every CPU compatible with your current motherboard has AVX.

Just beware with Haswell, AVX outputs a huge amount of heat. IF you overclock, validate your OC exclusively with your intended load (i.e AVX).

Try to avoid synthetic loads such as prime. Use Handbrake H264 2-pass, emulators, etc. instead.

yes, just like every other i3/i5/i7 compatible with your motherboard.

V1 = Sandy Bridge V2 = Ivy Bridge V3 = Haswell V4 = Broadwell? V5 = Skylake

whatthefuck. I have a bad experience too, Ive stuck with old intel for a while, but the new AMD Ryzen series cpus are basically higher core count, newer haswell/broadwell equivalents with similar power draw and tdp.
