I'm planning to buy a Samsung 850 evo ssd 250gb for my pc because my current hdd is running pretty slow. I'm just going to transfer windows and some other apps such as discord and keep my games on my hdd. can anyone help me and tell me the steps to transfer windows without resetting my pc.

It's messy and will lead to problems. I've tried with the 500GB 850. You'll want to start fresh, which means lots of downloading updates. But it's worth it in the end. Much cleaner. :)

You can clone the drive, but that's not recommended. And yes, you can use your SSD for Windows and applications, and your HDD for games.

so if i clone the drive, everything thats on the hdd will go to the ssd? because i just want to do windows

Here's what you should do:

Install windows on SSD.

Move over all documents to new locations on SSD and HDD.

Reinstall all applications you had before.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

Hello,

Here is my suggestion:

You can migrate OS to the new SSD with third party software, like MiniTool. If you want to keep some software on the original drive, you can migrate system required partitions only.

Then, boot computer from the cloned drive, and use the original HDD as data drive.

If you use this method, you need to reinstall the applications which you want to transfer to the new SSD.

so if i want to keep a game such as gta 5 on the hdd, i have to reinstall it on the hdd, or can i just keep i there?
