I had 6700k and 980Ti with 3440x1440 display and it wasn't bottlenecking. It does depend on the game though.

The higher the resolution the more likely that the GPU will be the bottleneck. This term is starting to be used more and more frequently, i've noticed it popping up a lot on the forums recently. The only real processors that will cause bottleneck are older i5's, and AMD FX chips, can probably throw in Ivy bridge and older i7's into that basket as well now - and this is only at lower resolutions on powerful GPU's like 1080/1080ti. Even a Ryzen can cause some bottlenecks with 1080/1080ti at 1080P and lower resolutions, same is true for pretty much all CPU's and game engines that only use 1 or 2 threads
