Hello, I bought a PC from my cousin that he had, had for a year and he thinks that its worth $1600. It has a Intel core i3 6100, a gtx 1050, 8 GB of ddr4 ram, a z170z motherboard, a h60 CPU cooler and a 1 terabyte hard drive. Is this PC even close to worth $1600??

I bought a new gtx 980ti, a intel core i5 7500, 8 more gbs of ram, windows 10. Is this PC now worth $1000??

His dad has gtx 1080, 64gb of ram, Mac, a 4 terabytes ssd in raid 0 and a Intel core i5 7600k. Idk what motherboard he has and CPU cooler but he says he sons PC is worth more.

They both told me idk how to make a PC yet I spent only $600 and the PC is 100% better than when I got it. So which PC was better, the before or after?

The PC you bought was not even close. (Imma assume you live in USA)

RAm: ~100

GPU: ~170

CPU: ~160

Mobo: ~120

Cooler: ~50

HDD: ~50

Total: ~650, give or take 50 or so dollars

Your new PC parts that you bought should increase the value by a lot

RAM: ~200

GPU: ~600 (yay miners)

CPU: ~200

Win10: ~100

Total: ~1290 (depending on how the gpu is valued at. Yay miners?)

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Thank you all for your help making my cousin realize that buy cheap computer parts is one of things you don't wanna do in life if you want the best you can afford.

The best you can afford isn't a good idea either. Ain't no use in getting a 1080 if you're not gonna use it.

I just scored an R9 390X here on the forums for $200 shipped so there is hope yet :)

EDIT: Not to mention GTX 1060's are now selling for MSRP or close to ($300 for 3GB Single Fan or $350 for 6GB Twin Fan)

@JDE is right ^. That is a VERY low-end build. Not really worth anybody's time.

Actually come to think of it... I may just win the "Best Mid-Range Build Value of the Mining Apocalypse Award" if there is such a thing lol

Ryzen 5 1600X - $140 Shipped (Ebay lightly used as storage server CPU for 1.5 months)

Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 Rev. 1.0 - $60 Shipped (Refurbished Ebay Reseller)

ADATA XPG Gammix D10 16GB (8GBx2) 3000MHz - $120 Shipped (Ebay)

XFX R9 390X - $200 Shipped (LTT Forums)

Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVME Boot Drive - $130 Shipped (NewEgg, unable to find a decent deal at all lol)

Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5" SATA III SSD - $50 Shipped (EBay)

ALL products purchased between March 1st and March 8th 2018

Everything is here minus the GPU and tested and working VERY well :)

I screwed up the OC at first because its my FIRST time with voltage control and had no idea that Gigabyte is stupid when it comes to voltage settings LOL! At the end of the thread below I got my settings worked out and am now running a very suitable 3.975GHz on all 12 threads @1.392V for a very stable and cool running system (relatively) that should last me for many years to come!

Ya true new there is no way but I wanted to build on a budget and the non-X 1600's are going for the same $140 on eBay so I figured "why not the X for the same price from a guy who actually lists what the CPU was used for?" And it turned out great :)
