I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I question that mobo choice for a NAS, that's almost 4x the cost of a b250 board... and sata ports not a problem with an LSI-9211-i8 anyway, which I personally bought one for around £20. Yes a server board will be more hardy and has a few more bells and whistles, but most people probablt will never use them to be honest. It mostly depends on your servers location, so that it can be reached in the event of a problem. For me it's no problem as mine are in my bedroom, right under my TV and next to my PCs too, so have TV/monitors and peripherals galore if I need them. If yours is gonna be in a family room, I say just have a mouse/keyboard handy for any problems that can't be sorted out via the webgui is all and save the money and get a b250 board, I recommend the asrock b250 pro 4  https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/QXdFf7/asrock-b250m-pro4-micro-atx-lga1151-motherboard-b250m-pro4

Just wanted to comment on the WD external drive suggestion. Seems as though WD is starting to put blue drives in many if not most of their external drives now. With an 8TB you might be okay since I don't think WD offers an 8TB blue drive yet...but it is something to keep in mind as you shop for drives.

Agree, I was going to get a 4TB external and shuck it, but then I did some research and the drive turned out to be a blue drive as you mentioned.. I ended up going with some 4TB iron wolf drives instead and they are perfect, very quiet and good performance from them so far, I liked them so much I bought another just recently.
