Hey all I'm looking for an app to visualize what programs are using space on a HDD/SSD.  My sister has a 120GB SSD and out of the blue it was full when she doesn't install anything on it so I'm looking for something to help her find whats taking up all the space.  Recently I saw someone recommend an app that did this but I don't remember what it was called or which post it was in for me to look back at.

Case - NZXT H6 Flow : Mobo - ASRock X670E PG Lightning : PSU - Deepcool PX1000G : CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D w/Arctic Freezer III 360  : Memory - G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32gb 6000mhz CL30 : GPU - MSI Expert 4080 Super : Storage - Verbatim Vi7000G 4tb NVME SSD  : Displays - Gigabyte 32" M32QC Curved 165hz & 27" M27Q Pro 165hz 1440p

Windows does have something for this.  CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up the Task Manager.

That would be only in Win8 and newer. I don't know if it shows software that aren't open or even general drive usage.

The original post does not say what operating system they are using.

And task manager doesn't show file/folder size. It only shows active disk usage. Which isn't helpful when trying to find what hogging space.

Not to contradict but looking at the Taskmanager on my machine I find the Taskmanager shows what processes are running or active.  A process is usually just called a program but the Taskmanager shows both active and open software programs as well as those that are running in the background.  It shows how much each process requires of CPU usage, how much is required or used of memory, how much disk space each process  requires or is using and what is required for each process of your network resources.

For example, on my machine I run the BOINC Manager so that I can participate in the Seti@Home project.  There are 6 instances or processes of Seti running.  Each process is using 7.7% to 11.7% of my cpu at any given time.  Each process is using on average 34Mb of memory along with 0.1Mb of disk space and is using Zero network space.

I'm not worried about what BOINC/Seti is using because I have 3TB of drive space, 32GB of DDR3 and an AMD FX8370 cpu on an ASUS Tuf Sabertooth FX990 2.0 motherboard.

If you are concerned about what is physically hogging the space on your SSD or HHD, then just take a look at the file manager.  It will show you the space used down to each individual file if you just take the time to look.

Take another look at OP. This is all about finding out what takes disk space, not active usage (=read/write speed). Windows doesn't show size for folders and finding some of the larger individual files would take a while if you don't know where to look. But there are tools like WinDirSat and Space Snitch which are made to look for those.

My mistake, thanks for pointing that out.  Guess I will have to download the WinDirSat for myself.  Seems I have a copy of everything else on my machine, one more won't hurt.
