How much cooling is required for a standard 7200rpm HDD?

LaboonTheWhale

I agree with you here having it mounted any other way than flat, unless manufactured to be orientated differently. Would, in my mind, reduce the life of the drive. However, by how much? I dont know.

Years ago it was routine to mount drives on edge. NAS often mount drives on edge. Numerous consumer level external drives are verticle.

If it's a mechanical drive, yes it will

Nope it doesn't, vertical or horizontal is the same, what matters is if it's on an angle. 180/90 degrees is fine, 45 degrees however is not

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

I have a Silverstone Raven RV03 wich mounts the drives behind the motherboard, it just recieves incidental airflow from the intake fans in the bottom of the case. but i dont think is much. That said, Ive never had problems with heat in my drives (1 SSD, 1x 1TB, 1x 500GB)

First post :)
