I went ahead and bought a couple of momentary anti-vandal buttons I had planned to drill holes through the plastic plates on the 3.5" drive bay. Unfortunately the plate cracked when I drilled the second hole. Does anyone know of a solution for me? Either a steel bay plate to a pre-drilled plate for a 22mm and a 16mm button.

You cold add a doubler or cover plate made of aluminum, to go over the current plastic one so you retain the mounting points.

It was a bay cover from an old tower case.  I was using a stepped drill bit in a press. I was trying very hard not to apply to much pressure. 

 

In any case if found a prefabbed plate at the same place i got the buttons:
