Upgrade Suggestion

Hi,

I am currently using an i5 4570 with 8 GB RAM, 7200RPM HDDs and GTX 1070.

This is primarily used as my workstation and 1080p gaming. Recently I have started working with high poly 3D models and I am experiencing considerable slowdowns when working on them.

What would be the best option for upgrade which would allow me to work without delays?

Thanks

SSD is my first and favorite suggestion. Everything will (obviously) load up faster. The second thing I would suggest is CPU and RAM upgrades. If you're banging on the CPU (and GPU depending on how the workloads are optimized), you're going to greatly benefit from a more powerful CPU along the lines of a R7 1700, i7 7700k, i5 8600k, i7 8700k, etc. Do you know if RAM is a limiting factor at all?

The Task Manager can point you to the bottleneck.

  • If you have high drive delays, grab one of those PCIe AHCI M.2 SSDs.
  • If your RAM usage is high, step up to 16GB or 32GB.
  • If your CPU usage is capped, try step up to Xeon E3-1231v3 (while keeping the current mobo and RAM) before committing to a CPU/Mobo/RAM replacement.
