Really, just toss it, its slow and old and just loves power. It will be cheaper to buy a newer server due to the power savings. Your also missing on lots of cpu features in these old servers.

The highest cpu's it supports are two SL8ZJ/SL7ZB xeon 3.8ghz.

The highest amount of ram is 12gb of ddr2.

It officially only supports 12GBs if I remember, but I was able to add 16GBs into mine.

Mine came with a SAS HDD controller and backplane. It would be fine to set up as a test machine, but it won't be a blazing fast system. Pentium 4 Era single core, Hyper-Threaded CPUs.

Oh. And it is loud when first booting or under load.

I had a HD5450 in mine purely as a display card. No point in putting anything that is a gaming tier card in the thing. You aren't going to get any high performance out of it.

I have two PowerEdge 1800s. Previously, they were my test machines. Currently, I use their husks as a throne for my main PC. Everything they used to do, I have virtualized and run off my main PC.
