Hi, I have a paul jetstream geforce gtx 960 with 2gb of video memory. It is really not enough for me but right now I can't afford to buy a new graphics card. So I was thinking if there is a way to get more video memory without buying new graphics card. I searched in YouTube and I found a video that is showing you how to see your overall graphics memory. I watched the video, then I went in the display settings and saw that I have 2048mb of video memory and total available graphics memory of 6119mb. I was woundering what are these numbers and I didn't find anything in the internet. My question is: What is this Total Available Graphics memory used for and can I use it for my games? Bonus question: Is it normal to have fps lag with a gtx 960 and intel core i5-4460, because I don't think it is?

no, if it has 2 gb of vram it has 2gb of vram, I can't see a way of getting more than the card has on it..except it has 6gb of vram and 4 are disabled what makes no sense

Huh, I didn't know my friend Paul made graphics cards!

The card has 2GB of vram, but can use system RAM if it needs to.

Thank you very much. I thought that 2gb of vram is not good at all but if it uses system ram it doesn't sound really bad.

I checked on the box of the card and it says that it has 2048mb of vram. But I watched a video that is quite stupid. In it they remove the vram from the card and replace it with other ram. I really don't think that this could work. Here is a link

YOu can't upgrade the video memory, but your probably isn't video memory anyways, its probably just the slower gpu.

What is your vram usage and gpu usage in games?

Total vram uses system ram incase you run out a vram.

I solved the problem. I was changing the settings and trying to see what is making the game to run that bad and I tried turning off MSAA. After that the game was running really smooth without any lag. BTW what does MSAA do?

So TECHNICALLY this is doable, but you'll need to get the exact RAM you need, which probably means you'll have to get a 960 4Gb model, then you'll have to de-solder that RAM, and re-solder it to your current GPU.  To be able to do this you'll need a BGA rework station, which start at about $5000.  So basically there is no way to do this.

:| It really isn't worth it to get another GPU and a BGA rework station. Maybe I should just save some money and buy a new one.

Yeah saving up for a new one is basically the only option.  The 960 is still a very capable card though and as long as you turn the texture quality down so you don't run out of VRAM it should last for quite a while longer.
