So I'm going to try to get a Samsung m.2 ssd. I'm just wondering about the pci-e lanes? I have a 1060 3gb running in a 16x slot, and a 1x WiFi card in case my Ethernet cable decided to die on me. I'm running an I5-7500 that has 16 PCI-E lanes. On intels website it says it can run a 1x8 and a 2x4 set of lanes. If I kept the WiFi card in, would that make my graphics card go from 1x8 to 1x4. I ask because previous experence w/ pcie lanes has cost me a month of pain in the @$$ and $20 restock fees.

Current:

1x8 Graphics card

1x1 Wifi Card

Optimal:

1x8 Graphics card

1x4 SSD

1x1 WiFi Card

Possible outcome?:

1x4 Graphics card

1x4 SSD

1x1 Wifi Card

x1 slots are almost always coming from the PCH which provides additional lanes in addtion to the CPU. Best case, it stays at x16 for the GPU and the SSD pulls from the PCH as well, worst case the GPU drops to x8 and the SSD pulls x4 lanes from the CPU.

Current Network Layout:

Current Build Log/PC:

Storage Server Setup:

Yep it will be fine. THe gpu will run at 16 from the cpu. The Wifi, ssd, and other devices on the board are running off the dmi where you have another 24 lanes from the dmi

If it's an NVMe M.2 SSD, then it will take PCIe lanes from the chipset. The Wi-Fi adapter has its own dedicated lane that is also coming off the chipset. Nothing will affect the video card's PCIe lanes, as those are provided from the CPU. However in a lot of cases with NVMe, using one will usually disable two SATA ports. So refer to your manual about that.
