Do routers act like hub or switch

tehx

Do Routers/Modems such as the Sky Hub, BT Router and Virgin Media Router transfer data out of all Ethernet ports regardless of whether if device connected to that port actually requested for the data.

Basically I'm asking do the ethenet ports on morden hubs/routers these days act like a hub or a switch

Oh wow. Is this with basically all routers or just a majority?

Hubs are dead and should be forgotten! Forever! :P

No router made in the last decade, probably longer, would act like a hub.

A hub just blasts traffic out all ports, all the time. A switch knows where to send traffic and only broadcasts when it doesn't know where a host is before learning and then sending directly.

I imagine it would depend on the specific model, but it would be hard to imagine any even slightly decent router would be using a hub-like design for that portion of itself.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Yeah I would too. It's just because my Router/Modem is called a 'Sky Hub' which is why I thought it might act like a hub, but I guess it is just their stupid/confusing naming scheme.

Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about the name. In all likelihood, it's no more a hub than it is in the sky :P

They probably use the term "hub" because it more accurately evokes the purpose of a router to the average joe than the term "switch"
