144hz but 80fps is ok?

Cuboid88

yeah im looking into getting a high refresh rate monitor but my pc isnt like baller or anything (ryzen 1600x 16gb ram 1080 strix) and down the line i might not be able to hit a comfortable 144fps in games but is it still ok to have a 144hz monitor but to get under 144fps or does it look all mushy and weird.

thanx for any replies

If you get a G-Sync monitor, it'll be fine. Otherwise the tearing may or may not be bearable.

is there a way to set it further back so i dont get tearing and only have 144hz when i can push that many frames

V-Sync, but what's displayed is always going to be a refresh cycle late and the frame rate will be capped to 144 FPS and halves of it (72, 36, 18, etc).

It's a variable refresh rate technology like G-Sync, but it only works on AMD cards.

I have a 144hz monitor and a very powerful pc, but I cant run 144 fps in most of the stuff I play so via nvidia control I step down to 100hz and then limit my fps via msi afterburner and riva tuner.

Works great.

If you really want to hit 144hz you can always turn down settings in games. You'd be surprised how little difference some image quality settings makes to the visuals yet improve your fps significantly.
