Hello again Everyone,

I have been eyeing the 8700k, Asus Prime Z370-A and basically just bought this moments ago https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232181

I'm wondering.. did I make the wrong choice? Ryzen 2 is around the corner and so far from rumors, Ryzen 5 2nd gen has a single core boost of maybe 5% - 6%. Should I have waited or should I be waiting? I feel like I'll be waiting forever at this rate.

I'm currently running an i5-3570k @4.6GHz, 16gb DDR3 1800MHz ram, and a P8Z77-V LK mobo. I don't really feel satisfied with the current components just cause every time I run something, my cpu is flat out 100%. I rarely stutter but video editing takes forever when rendering.

I'm just wondering if these choices are good. I know everything's at a high point at the moment but to wait till 2019 for RAM to come down a little is probably a no-can-do for me. I was planning to upgrade this year and had that pushed from 2017 to this year after i9 didn't seem to appeal to my tastes with the pricetags!

I found a 8700k for 350 USD, the Asus Prime Z370 -A for 155 USD and the RAM converts into 167 USD. Is this alright?

I've heard a couple people recommend it and it does fit my needs. It's not completely overboard in terms of functionality so I'm quite happy. The other I had in consideration was a MSI motherboard (cause it's part of a bundle) but some people were saying they use cheaper VRMs so... yeah... I don't even know how people find out what the qualities are for different manufacturers' VRMs.

I wish I could give you a better answer but yeah... I've really only ever used Asus motherboards and none of them have died out on me. I helped my friend put together his computer and he picked out a MSI motherboard. I didn't like the UEFI as much so yeah.

Haven't been a fan of Asus for a while ever since my overly expensive ROG board for the old 2500k build just died randomly. Been using Asrock ever since without issue.

Might try Gigabyte since I'm planning another small it build with the 8700/k potentially.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the 8700k is still going to be stronger than Ryzen, as long as you're mostly gaming and not into intense content creation.

Yeah my instincts tell me the 8700k is going to still be stronger than Ryzen 2 in a gaming mainly focus. If we're seeing 5%- maybe 7% max single core performance increase, I still think the 8700k beats that. Even with some people's overclocks, another 200MHz boost based on the Ryzen 5 2nd gen says it's weaker still. Whether that's going to be applicable to the 2800x or 2700 is another story.

8700k going for 450 CAD at Mike's computers. It's going for around 435 CAD at a grand opening for Canada Computers. I'm just going to get the 450 CAD one unless I can get a chance to go to that 435 CAD location. It's quite far away from where I live.
