If you're gonna be video editing like Adobe After Effects, or do 3d graphic design like CAD, you will need as much RAM as you can, which is why I picked an X79 platform that can support up to 64gb of RAM using 8gb modules. Ivy bridge 3770k will be the last Z77/LGA1155 CPU, and as great as it is, it is only a quad core. I picked an I7-3820 because of the budget limitations for now, but when Ivy Bridge-E comes out, you will be left with a ton of upgrading options with the option of a hexa-core and octa-core. This motherboard and case also allows for up to 4-way SLI/Crossfire, if you ever wanted that much GPU power. Here is the list, just under $1800 after $55 in mail in rebates: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Ow9v (Note: I left out the peripherals and minor things like the screen, keyboard, fans, optical drives.)

Well now...

Gaming - Get a Intel 3570k - perfect for this and when overclocked, can get some great performance

High end video editing, 3D Modeling, etc. - then better off going with a 3770k where the extra cores can make a big difference...

Mobo - MSI Z77-GD65

SSD - Samsung Pro 120GB for boot

Mechcanical - pick some 2TB drive of choise

PSU - Corsair AX, say 750...

Video Card - 7970

Memory - get 16GB but don'y bother with the high end stuff - 1600 and such perform pretty as well

Case - Get something that appeals to you

Water Cooling? - Look to H100i - make sure case you pick can hold it

Any left over? Get another 7970 :)
