Old Router Turned Into A Switch Problems

Hello

I want to turn my old router into a switch for my second pc and any other future devices to be connected to.

I know i need to turn DHCP off but i can't figure out how to.

Ive tried going to 192.168.0.1 but it takes me to my current routers site and when i plug in my old router and search that address or 0.0 instead it shows that i have no internet so i can't get onto it.

Its probably a very easy fix and im just missing something obvious but if someone cloud give us a hand and guide me where to go that would be great

Thanks in advance guys

Plug just the router into your pc and nothing else. That way it can only connect to that router.

but then how do i turn dhcp off from there with no internet connection

You don't need internet for this. Just connect the two and goto the website from the router and configure it and change its ip.

Switch off your current router and connect the pc to the old router and go to that router web admin.

Switch off DHCP and change the router address to something different from the new router like 192.168.0.2.

Now connect everything and turn on the new router and open the web admin at 192.168.0.1.

Whats happening to you is that the IP of both routers are in conflict.

Your pc is currently get the IP from the old router which has 192.168.0.1.

But in order for you to connect to the internet you have to set the default gateway to the new router which is also 192.168.0.1.

Changing the IP of the old router hopefully fix this.
