So first things first, this exploit is userland only, no kernel mode access and it appears to be derived from an exploit for firmware 4.55 that can be seen in its entirety here.

The exploit comes from a previously unknown hacker called AlexZZZ and is a WebKit based exploit based on WebKit bug CVE-2017-7005

It's advertised as Firmware 5.01 but multiple users have confirmed success on Sony's latest 5.05 firmware however it also seems like it doesn't work on 5.50 which is currently out in beta and is due for mainstream release within the next few weeks. IF YOU WANT TO TEST THIS OUT THE DONT UPGRADE!!!

Not much more to say really, it doesn't really do much as of yet but is a gateway to at least basic homebrew on the PS4 running the latest firmware.

Iirc "Mini News" titles were forbidden long time ago? I remember @GoodBytes (former king of mini news) telling me that in my own mini news post.

Goodbyes, the guy who regularly deletes and moves topics from tech news because they're apparently not tech news only to then go and do the exact thing he told others not to in his own news posts.

Soooo ummm what is Homebrew? I don't use PS4 but it's interesting to see what's happening on other console etc.

Homebrew, software made by consumers that run on proprietary hardware that would most commonly require loopholes or exploits to be able to run on them

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 12 years later: It's finally coming!!! I don't care anymore

To my knowledge "Mini News" are now gone. Was too complicated to have a split on the guidelines, and what was considered "mini" or not in many cases. So now, everything is normal news. Even though the news is like 2 sentences. We will close our eyes on quoting the whole article on such case, the same we do if the source is a video from a trusted source and as a result have no quote to put.

You are just pissed, because I moved your Windows 10 Insider thread out of Tech News.

It was already decided that there will be no Windows Insider posts in the Tech News section as it creates confusion with people who have no idea what it is, don't understand what "Beta" is in software development stages, and the frequency of them (each week on average) will just clutter the News section. Not to mention handling features being removed, or delayed from official release. That is why the "Windows 10 Insider" thread was pinned under Windows section. We let it slide official feature revealed by Microsoft so far, like for example, Microsoft showing a new feature on stage at an event and saying that it is coming out in a version of Windows... (even though several have not made the mark and have been delayed to the following version release of Windows 10 as a result)

The thread that are moved out of the Tech News section are entries that don't follow the posting guidelines of the forum section, but I open the door for the OP to fix it, so that I can move it back in the Tech News section. Some do, some don't. What can I tell you.

The thread that are locked in the Tech News section are entries that don't follow the posting guidelines at all.

If you are not happy with the decisions, you can discuss this with any mod or admin, just PM them.

If you one needs assistance in getting their entries up to the guidelines, to have their thread moved back, or unlocked, mods, including myself, are there to help.

Not at all, I just find it a tad hypocritical that you delete Windows insider threads but then every release you make a news topic outlining all the new features.

I'm not pissed, not even unhappy with your decision but if the rules are there they should be applied equally to everyone.

With that said this is entirely off topic so I'll drop the subject now.

Well, the OS version release date has been set, all features are finalized, no more updates under the Insider program are shipped for this version.

As I said, you can make a news thread on some official announced features if you want. And, you can also repeat the new feature(s), even if you were not the one posting about the officially announced feature(s),  in the a new news thread about the official release of Windows 10 version (or coming up if a date has been set), if you want to, as the main news is about the new released version of Windows 10, and not the feature, you just go above and beyond by presenting all the new features.

If you feel a decision by a mod is incorrect/not equal, then you can hit the report button on the thread, and another mod will decide. Mistake can be made, we are humans.
