DDR4: 3000mhz vs 4000mhz Is there a difference?

Go to solution Solved by intender,

I have some ddr 4000, and I dont really see much difference between it at 4000 and 3200 unless its running a game in the igpu.  the gains from 2133 up to 3000 for me were pretty consistent, but after 3200 its pretty much the same in all except some synthetic benches.  To make my point I have 8gb of the 4000mhz ram, and 16gb of 3200mhz ram.  the 3200mhz ram is in my main gaming rig, and the 4000mhz ram is in my pentium htpc running at 3600mhz because of tighter timings.  the difference in performance was not enough for me to justify buying another 8gb of the 4000mhz ram.

Hello all.. Currently pricing out a PC at the moment.

Planning on getting a 8600k(Going to be OCing hopefully up to 5ghz), along with a Asus Z370 Hero mobo, Already have a 1070 Ti.

Now I mainly play MMOs: FFXIV, ESO, WOW, and some others.. But also play games like overwatch. My question is, since MMOs are CPU bound most of the time.. Would Higher speed of the RAM help FPS at all? As like 3000mhz to 4000mhz. Trying to find reviews on speeds up to 4000mhz compared to lower speeds.. Can't seem to find any for gaming.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If I remember right memory speeds don't affect intel performance nearly as much as they do on ryzen, The reason being is that the increased speeds help with ryzen's bottlenecks.

Edit: That video is pretty informative.

I don't think you'll see a massive improvement between the two, especially for the associated cost. You'd see more performance sinking those extra dollars into a better graphics card.

It's still decent, going from 2133 to 3200 is about 5 - 10 fps depending on the title.

Really Informative posts, Thank you all. From watching that video, and browsing some other posts... It does seem like some games take advantage of it more then others.

However I'll probably end up just getting 3200mhz.. Seems like the sweet spot for cost/performance ratio.

Thanks all!
