I read it as network traffic not internet traffic. It used to be that the graph would only move for transfers within the network and ignore internet traffic. I guess they decided they are the same thing.

Uh, what?

The internet graph in task manager cannot distinguish between WAN and LAN transfers.

It displays the total transfer over the internet connection, never just the "local network traffic".

It has been like this for literally decades.

.. could even go so far as to say it displays the traffic on the port. Internet has nothing to do with it.

Less of course you have internet on one adapter and the network on another. ....

It will always talk to it's network. Now it's network may be in the public IP range (in which case it would be referred to as a WAN), or it may be in a private IP range (in which case it would be referred to as a LAN), but either way the adapter itself doesn't know it's an internet adapter. You can give them names, or route certain traffic through them, but essentially there is never an "internet" adapter.

If you are clever enough to realize that traffic going through the adapter with a route to the internet is probably internet traffic then that makes sense, but it's really the only way you're gonna know. Ain't it?

  • 2 years later...

Hi i had the same problem the fix is simple go to **start---settings---network&inthernet---status** all the way down there is network reset click it and restart your computer

warning you might have some previous settings applied, when you will reset your network all previous settings will set to default.
