AMD for a NAS?

jimshaly

Following Linus' advice from a year ago or so about repurposing a computer into a NAS, I found an incredibly cheap PC on eBay that has an AMD A8-5600K. I just want to know that this would be good enough. I know it might seem like a silly question, but most everything I've read concerning building a NAS deals in Intel chips, whether i3's or Xeons.

it will be more than enoigh for a nas, you need very little cpu for a nas.

Unless you plan to use it as a streaming server (plex etc) or to do anything else that would require more processing. If you're planning to use it as just a basic fileserver it should be fine.

It'll be good for two-three concurrent users.
