First, welcome to the forums! (not sure why you're saying hey again, this is your first post, but I digress!)

Second, are you looking to upgrade from a gaming perspective?

If so, my first recommendation is going to be to upgrade to something that has more than 2gb of VRAM to fully take advantage of 2560x1440p My recommendations are going to be based upon budget, but they're largely going to be straightforward: Nvidia or AMD at the top end of your budget.

1060 3GB if you can get it at ~MSRP would be a good choice, but its pretty much out of stock or overpriced everywhere

The 1060 3gb will struggle with that resolution (2560x1440) as well.

For 1440p gaming I would try to get myself a 1070 at least (but that's my opinion).

its currently one of the closest to MSRP though.....its hard to recommend something that is grossly overpriced like most 1070/1070ti cards

You're definitely right! But for the resolution he's planning to use, a 1060 will probably have a hard time rendering games at 1440p

E-sports titles are easy to play with a 1060 3gb at 1440p (I've played league of legends at 1440p with a 960 for a while).

But when you get to the more open world style of games, you will notice that the 1060 3gb is not up for the task.

But moba's and most of the first person shooters will be fine (probably) :)

Better not use SLI. It's much better to have 1 powerful GPU instead of 2 semi-powerful GPU's.

Also the optimalization of SLI is garbage.

It really depends on the games you want to play. If you are planning on playing AAA games in the future (especially open world games or games with high graphical demands), I would really try to get something like a 1070 or better (980ti should be fine too).

A 1070 performs somewhat similar to a 980ti, at least that's what some benchmark charts say.

So, in my opinion, for AAA gaming at 1440p on high settings a 980ti/1070 or better is most suitable, but those cards won't come in cheap :(

In general I think a 1060 is not suitable for gaming on a higher resolution than 1920x1080.

But these are all MY opinions!

If you have the money for those cards, I think those cards are the best options (from "cheapest" to the most expensive):

- GTX 980 TI

- GTX 1070

- GTX 1080

- GTX 1080 Ti

PC Specs: Intel Core i7-8700k - Asus ROG Z370 MAXIMUS X HERO - 2x8gb Kingston Predator DDR4 3200MHz - MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti gaming X Be Quiet!
