Hi this is my first post here

I recently got a gigabyte aourus x7 Dr v7

I was Gaming the hell out of it nothing phases it and it runs like a dream

but then I installed core temp and gpu temp also hwmonitor and found out a few things

first and biggest problem is the CPU temps get all the way up to 99c when playing kingdom come deliverance on high (textures on ultra)

of course this is not good thermal throttling happens and it will degrade the lifespan

So I first tried putting it into windows 10 balanced mode the temps were amazing in comparison still runs great at the same settings but my highest core frequency is capped to 2.9ghz the max turbo of my chip is 3.9ghz on a i7 7820HK that a lot of power to sacrifice in my opinion

so I have used Intel extreme tuning utility to undervolt the CPU core voltage offset -100v and stress tested it seems stable and the temps did reduce at high load but it doesn't want to go any lower than 3.7ghz on high performance powerplan even with advanced settings minimum processor state plugged in set to 5%

Or any higher than 2.9ghz on balanced but can downclock on balanced all the way to 1.6ghz

I have been googling for days

I want 1.6 ghz to a boost of 3.9ghz

So my question I guess is how can I force a maximum cap change on balanced power plan or force an downclock at idle on high performance power plan

My god I will be grateful if you can understand and help p

Have you considered replacing the thermal paste, or even RMAing the system? it shouldn't get nearly that hot.

I can repaste but I'd prefer not to at the moment and I think the 99c was with the command Center overclock set to Max on CPU and Gpu on high power, playing a not very optimised new release from an Indy Dev

After more tweaking with Intel extreme utility I was able to get a stable downvolt of -175 I think because this is factory overclockable with sliders the voltage was just set way too high

Bit I still want to work out why balanced mode won't turbo boost I don't think this needs an rma
