pc is old

has only vga output

dell u2417h

monitor has got 1 displayport, 1 mini displayport and 1 hdmi port

firstly, is it possible to connect my pc to the new monitor?

if it is possible, what is the best way to do it?

note - i purchased the linked hdmi to vga adapter

https://www.amazon.in/Honeywell-HDMI-to-VGA-adapter/dp/B01M0FUY59

tried to make the connection in the following manner

used a vga cable

one end of the vga cable plugged into my pc and i couldn't plug the other end of the vga cable into my monitor as it does not have a vga input

so

i plugged the hdmi to vga adapter into my monitor's hdmi port and then plugged the other end of the vga cable coming from my pc into the adapter

it did not work

i think the error that was displayed was "no hdmi signal found"

so, did i do something wrong here?
