First I want to make one thing clear, I have one computer, and I can't afford a new one right now and probably not for a long time. So I have this CPU from a computer I took apart a while back but at the time I didn't realize what it was, it turns out it's actually better than my current CPU. My question is this, should I try putting it in my computer and use it (assuming it works.) The problem is that it has been mishandled, also I tried to power it on using random spare parts I have lying around and it didn't work. If I where to put it in my computer I'd have to buy thermal paste and then take out my existing CPU and put this one in. Is it worth the risk or should I play it safe and just not do it?

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.

What are the specs of your current computer, and what CPU did you find? I also bet it's a different socket.

What did you try to power it up with? When it didn't work, what happened?

The one I have now is a and Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 and the one I found is an E8600, It was mishandled in that I at the time I took that computer apart I knew nothing about how to handle a CPU and touched the pads and the heat-spreader and probably dropped it as well. I have since cleaned it. When I tried it out I hooked everything up outside of a case (since I don't have one lying around that would work). and powered it on, it just did nothing, the green light on the motherboard and power button came on but nothing else, I was however using a power supply that may or may not work (although from what I could see it seems just fine).

I have tried it and it works! The thermals are also better because of the new thermal paste.
