Which one should I buy: i5 8600k or ryzen 1600 or i5 8400? My main priority is gaming with a bit of video editing work.

i5-8400. Sounds like a pretty easy choice to me.

or, to make things more complicated than they need to be like I usually do, you could wait for Ryzen 2. Don't hold your breath though. It's not going to absolutely CRUSH the Coffee Lake i5s in gaming like some people time and time again think it will.

How does this belong in the graphics card section?

Anyway the i5 has better performance. What you want to pay is up to you.

Thread moved to CPUs, Motherboards and Memory.

Also, to be fair if the question is which is a better bang for buck for gaming, I'd say the R5 1600 + B350 board. However, keep in mind that an 8600K is a better choice if you plan on playing at high refresh rates with high-end GPUs, it's just more expensive and most people wouldn't notice a difference, so my vote goes to a 1600. If you plan on getting a GPU like Vega 64 / 1080Ti then the 8600K does make more sense though.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

I'm planning on getting a GTX 1060 3GB.

18 people are liars. /s

No for value, the R5 1600 is a far better choice. But for performance the 8600K is better. Both are good.

No worries :) Like people said the i5 is better performance, but the R5 is probably more bang for buck. Over here the i5 is ~80 more, so I can imaging you wanting to save some money there.

The difference as far as I can see is ~60.  Solely for gaming the i5 is likely worth that extra $60.  As soon as you say "I want to do other things besides gaming" that value goes away.

i5 for strictly gaming, R5 for general purpose performance in addition to better cost.  Perhaps saving up to $100 on the MB/CPU if you use a really cheap B350 board.

Personally I wouldn't put an R5 six core on a sub 100$ board, but it can be done if you do not expect to overclock or if you dont go crazy with voltage and monitor VRM temperatures.
