not sure laptop bios usually allow for messing with volting. basically the bios should have setting for setting the voltage or at least an offset if it doesnt then have a look at what else your bios does offer maybe theres some propriatary function like "cool and quiet" or something thatll do the same

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

Use Intel XTU if it's Intel CPU. I dont know if AMD ones can do it at all..

In CPU settings, there will be a setting to tune the CPU voltage. It's controlled by applying an offset. Negative value means undervolt. You can lower it until it crashes under full load. XTU has a stress test built in.

Here dude, this is what I used to learn how to undervolt my laptop. It works really well. I'm working on a guided video shoot how I can drop good temps at super minimal FPS impacts. In most cases, performance is better. No thermal throttling, so no dips, but. On Assassin's Creed Origins, I can no longer thermal throttle at the cost of about 2 FPS.

An other option is to limit your machine CPU usage to like 90 or 95%. That will also help it a lot. You can generally do that without the need to undervolt.

Probably not. It's not really a thing on OEM products. More for desktop and enthusiast platforms.

How old is the laptop, and define "heating"

asus gl702vs not old. gtx 1070 and i7 7700hq but they get really hot to 91c

Yeah it's in your power options / power plan. You can set a maximum CPU usage if you use a custom one.

Yeah, power options, advanced, then modify the profile. It's under CPU performance is something like that. Drop the maximum value to one of those and try it out. I have an Zmsi GS73 VR Stealth, so my 6600hq gets pretty toasty, I've reached 97 before! Some games are much worse than others...

Limiting the maximum CPU usage helps without some of the instability issues presented by undervolting. The only have that really didn't like it is Ark. It'll crash when I exit, every time I'm undervolting.

1070 can probably be undervolted as well. Can you give me a screenshot of Afterburner running in the laptop?

Dunno man, those laptop chips already run at very low voltages.

I can generally drop my CPU by about .120 on the high side with no stability issues, and drop a good 10+ degrees.

I hadn't had success undervolting my GPU. I have a 1060, and it doesn't ever get hotter than about 80, do I'm not worried, but any undervolt and instant gpu failure.

was talking about the gpu. Those are generally already at .8-.9

I have undervolted my 1070 to run at 0.925V at 1835MHz, which is 0.137V lower than stock at the same frequency. Probably yours is overclocked.

Depends on what frequency laptop 1070 runs at, but my desktop 1070 can run at the base 1506MHz clock at .75V. Any bit of undervolting will help with the thermals.

after some testing my gpu never exceed 80 on games so my problem is only with the cpu. when i get the chance ill undervolt it to -110v and put max performance for it to 99%

Agreed. I my CPU would thermal throttle until about -.120, if I dropped the max CPU performance, I can keep my 6600hq at -80 and 95%. You can also raise the minimum to match the same as the max, it'll help with continued higher max clocks.

Edit: raising the minimum allowed my CPU to stay at consistently 3.1GHz without dropping to 2.6 base.
