Hard Drive Question

Looking to upgrade my backup drive from 3TB to 6TB and use the 3TB drive (old backup drive) to upgrade my 2TB Data drive. The data drive are 2 1TB hard drives with the partition spanned across both drives. I want to consolidate this on a dedicated drive that's not using 2 1TB hard drives.

I found a Western Digital Datacenter/Enterprise Hard drive for around $150 on ebay. The condition is Recertified by WD. Would you take a chance on this or would you look for something else?

but no i'd only trust hitachi server drives

Its fine yes but Hitachi is proven best in reliability, also did you just assume our genders? O3O

I need source on that.

Fangirling would be something towards certains musical artist and not commonly used when there is a debate in tech like cmon we all know AMD is king in productivity.

Bacblaze tested some drive and shown WD to be most reliable, there are many links so just google it. And then Tweaktown dispel that anyway... so yeah.

That's cute that you think you have a better idea of reliability without doing any sort of large sample size test of your own.

Doesn't really matter - no matter how much testing you do on anything mechanical, the fact of the matter is that it's failing the second you power it on due to mechanical wear and tear. Sure, some brands have better QA testing than others, but I've had WD, Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung, and Toshiba drives all fail on me within 6 months of ownership in my 10+ years working on computers. Brand names mean nothing if the product still fails.

For the right price, buy whatever used drives you want, knowing that you're essentially gambling whether they will work for a long or short time. Just be sure to file a dispute if they're poorly packed, since improperly packed drives should be assumed DoA when shipped through the postal system.
