Solid Edge PC Question

A friend of mine needs Solid Edge for school and is interested in getting a new PC. What hardware preferences does the program have? Is there anything else we have to keep in mind when building a PC for this task?

While I haven't delved into solid edge very much other than the rare of times I've had to use it, like most CAD programs it should be heavily CPU based similar with Solidworks and the like with little real need for high end GPU power unless in very specific applications.

It seems that a workstation card is good to have but a gaming card wont work well. Clearly a software lock seen in many CAD software since it uses OpenGL itself.

Also needs Windows Enterprise or Pro (64bit), as well as new MS Office versions

I thought it is more CPU intensive?

Dont get me wrong, you can use it without a graphics card as long as there's an integrated one. I assume not having a graphics card will slow it down just like other CAD programs, but I'm not sure on how much it affects. 

 

The forum post did say that a K4200 (same core as GTX 670) is good enough, which has P1000 (GTX 1050 with 4GB VRAM) performance and is good news to the wallet.
