RX480 vram over heating

Hi

My asus dual RX480 8gb seems to have a vram cooling issue, there is no direct cooling on the vram but I am wondering what to do about it

I could put a 2 3mm thermal pad on the ram so it reached the main cooling block? or if i could find a 5mm pad i could do that

Also there are small heat sinks i could maybe put on the vram?

Ideas please on how to sort this

is this causing a problem? vram doesn't need a heatsink.

I bought it off a mate who swares its the vram, what happens is every so often the gpu locks up, screen goes black and the sound breaks. It is not the gpu core itself over heating so i dont know what else it could be

Thermal pads at over 1-2mm tends to just insulate rather than move heat. So no point in that. Is the vram oc'd? What about the GPU? What is the temps on the vrm (not vram)?

its stock clocks no over clock, and unsure of vrm temp, will keep an eye. could that be causing issues?

Overheating vrm will usually crash the card yes. So will a defective GPU die. If the vrm isn't overheating, then he probably overclocked it too much and killed it before selling it to you.

He dosnt overclock,

Its not a regular occurance but if its possibly the vrm I will keep an eye on that and update

Is a fan blowing on them? Some cards have it on the back and receive no cooling what so ever aside from convection. Don't see how that could be narrowed down though.

yeah the gpu's fans blow on the vram so i have no idea
