I got to wondering how other colleges handle additional transportation such as buses or rental bikes. Here at Ole Miss we have a few bus routes that cover a significant chunk of the surrounding city and has free bus fare for students. (We also have electronic rental bikes set up, but I've never seen anyone use them)

Technically they are city buses that come onto our campus but students can get free bus passes which apply to any bus in the city.

Both Universities, and the advanced technical College in town are serviced by the city transit system very thoroughly.

I went to the College, and fare is not included. However you can buy a discounted semester pass.

Additionally, the college runs a shuttle bus (free) across the street to the residence dorm regularly, and every so often organizes bus trips to grocery stores.

None of the schools I went to had their own buses, but were all extremely well serviced by public transit. Unless you count elementary and high school, in which case they had their own buses :P

They didn't make you buy passes? The schools where I went, the pass was included in tuition. You had to get it, whether you used it or not.

Both of the Universities subsidize bus passes as part of Tuition. At the College, they did not. Not that the tuition was cheaper than comparable Colleges that did include bus passes.

Pick your poison, I guess. Personally, I prefer when they include the bus passes, since they have huge buying power to get passes for much cheaper than if you had to buy them directly from the city transit. The amount your tuition would realistically drop if they removed the free passes wouldn't be very much.
