SLI Gtx 660 PSU wattage?

Wattage isn't all. You also need a sufficient amount of amperage on the rails. A decent 600-650w would be recommended for a 660 sli. 

His PSU has a single 12V rail with 41.67A. More than enough in my eyes.

Hello everyone,

 

I have recently been basically given a second gtx 660 that I can put in my system and I'm semi-concerned about the power requirement of SLI.

I have a 500w Corsair CX500, and the TDP of a gtx 660 is 140w and my i5-3570k is 77w, so I figure 140+140+77= 357w. Which leaves 143w for the rest of my system.

 

Does this accurately represent the approximate wattage used? Any advice would be helpful.

The reason I'm doing SLI on 660's is because I want an Nvidia card with more than 3GB of vram for my next upgrade(high resolutions and/or multimonitor), which might be a whole new system anyways. This should keep me going until then.

660 eats very little, check your PSU if it has 2 PCI-e 6-pin cables, if it does you're good to go. I wouldn't say your PC would eat more than 400W.

It should be enough. The psu fan would just a bit loud from the load.

500 Watts is just fine, but pleeeaaase get the CX500M (it's semi-modular).

He already has the cx500.

Thanks for the answers, you cleared it up for me. And yes, I unfortunately have the CX500. Never again will I go non-modular.

I have had 660 SLI's for quite a while in combination with an overclocked 3570K. I used an CX600 V2. But my energy meter never exceeded the 420 watts. So i guess your 500 watt power supply will be sufficient
