I'd like to say thank you to all the helpful people who posted here with advice and answered my questions. I'll be using a Xeon processer, buying a new PSU, and getting the 750ti for a much better price thanks to your help.

I'm building a new pc to make the switch from ps4 to pc master race with a few of my friends and need some advice on how to get a decent performing pc.

Post summary- I need help figuring out what kind of cpu I can get for 30 usd to put into a gaming pc that will run decent until I get more money. Trying not to wait unless I absolutely have to.

MOBO- I have an Asus mother board LGA 1156 socket that supports overclocking (Turbo Key)

Asus P7H55 Desktop Motherboard H55 Socket LGA 1156 i3 i5 i7 DDR3 16G ATX UEFI BIOS

GPU- I'm buying a used MSI 750ti 2gb GPU off of a friend for 100 usd, unless something better is suggested within that price range

RAM- I'm stealing (6gb) 3 2gb ddr3 ram sticks out of an old pc I have, planning on upgrading to new 8gb/16gb sticks when possible

Case- I picked up a basic DIY PC case that was on sale with 2 fans and ATX MOBO form factor

PSU- Also stealing a 300w power supply from that same PC

CPU- this is the main part that I need help with, I have a 30 usd CPU budget and I'm not sure how to go about buying one that will be capable of running games at, ideally 1080p stable 30/60fps (game depending)

I also have a fan for whatever cpu I wind up with.

There's a free geek about an hour away that I might try and go to but I'm not sure.

Oof. Either your area got hit hard by miners or you are getting scammed.

There isn't one. Unless you know someone who can give you a great deal or your MOBO supports Xeons that impossible.

you can get a 770 for that price.  The miners don't seem to be using these cards that much.

I would try and get your friend to drop the price to $80, as that's what they are going for on Ebay right now, that PSU will kill your PC, don't use it, and your best bet are looking around on Ebay for some cheaper Xeon's that fit the LGA1556. Best Ebay deal I saw after a quick look around was this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-X3470-2-93Ghz-8MB-3-6Ghz-quad-SLBJH-LGA1156/253362248794?epid=78482476&hash=item3afd911c5a:g:7lgAAOSwiBJaHf0r

Don't bother getting the PSU from the old PC just get a new one, and either try to get your friend to drop that 750ti price down or like what ArduinoBen said go for a 770. Or try grabbing a 970 off of craigslist or ebay.

UPDATE-

Price on that 750ti has gone down to 55usd freeing up 45 dollars giving me a 75 dollar budget for a cpu and new PSU.

Thank you guys for the advice and better pricing suggestion.

I think ill probably go for a 350w or 400w for 40ish dollars (tax and shipping).

Im up to about 40 dollars for a cpu, I'll do some looking for a Xeon processor.

Thanks again for all the help.

That's a way better deal for that 750ti. For the PSU try thinking about this: https://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=EV-500WWHT&c=CJ gives you more room for upgrades in the future rather than a 300w PSU. And for the CPU at that price its hard not to get scammed on ebay for both mobo and cpu, so idk for that. But good luck!!

that's not much better than the prebuilt PSU in quality. he's better off with a pure power 10 or cx450m.

https://ark.intel.com/products/42927/Intel-Xeon-Processor-X3430-8M-Cache-2_40-GHz

^probably gonna swap that out for a x3440 or x3450 but I still dont know if thats compatable. All of the x34(3-7)0 seem to be the same other than the 30 only being 4 thread instead of 8 like the all the others and obvious the clock speed.

I don't know much about what makes CPUs and MOBOs compatable, Both sockets are LGA1156 but I'm sure there are other factors, i was able to find that Xeon for a good price

the extra threads will help in gaming, avoid the 3430 and get the other xeons.

But those all should be compatible? I should have the budget for a 3450 now along with a new PSU

it should work just fine.
